Program Director Eric Robertson was featured on the PT Pintcast this month talking with Nick Ferlatte, a practicing physical therapist at Kaiser Permanente and Jimmy McKay of PT Pintcast. Jimmy, Eric and Nick chatted at the KP Nor Cal Reception at the 2017 Combined Sections Meeting about what sets Kaiser apart from other medical providers and the importance of focusing on prevention.
Because Kaiser is the insurance company, the hospital, and the medical group all rolled into one, they understand the benefit of keeping people healthy and not relying on extra tests and procedures to make money. “We’re talking about incentives realigned in favor or the patient and towards care,” says Eric. “We’re going to make money if we can deliver the most efficient care, right away.”
This means that patients stay healthier, doctors want to keep patients healthy and physical therapy is an important part of the equation. Eric, Nick and Jimmy discussed the PT Fellowship residency program and how it fits right into the integrated care model at Kaiser. “The great thing about the residency is that it fits seamlessly into our care delivery,” said Nick.
