Course Description
In this course will be a virtual lecture with small group discussion on Evidence – based Interventions in the Management of People with Degenerative Disease of the Nervous System.
Objectives
After completing this course, participants should be able to:
- Compare and contrast the principles of neural plasticity that govern recovery of function following brain damage due to degenerative disease.
- Describe principles of exercise for people with degenerative disease.
- Describe special considerations for each population discussed: ALS, MSA, and FA.
- Describe the precautions for each of the populations listed above associated with increased activity/exercise and physical therapy intervention.
- Describe the evidence supporting physical therapy/rehabilitative intervention in treating persons with these disorders.
- Apply the principles of exercise to the recovery of function in patients with the degenerative neurologic conditions listed above to create therapeutic interventions.
- Apply the principles of neural plasticity that could contribute to improved function in people with neurodegenerative disorders.
